Old Road Twisty
SITE MAP AND RIDE ROUTE LENGTH - 800 miles or 1230 Kilometers

Tour Information:
On this 4-day riding tour we travel 800 miles and spend 4 nights lodging.   You will experience first hand what it was like to travel on parts of the Old HW-95 prior to the mid-1970’s.  The old highway was the only north-south commerce road available in Idaho until the mid-70s when new highways were opened.  On the Old Twisty tour we will experience the Whitebird grade, the Winchester grade, the Lewiston grade, Rattlesnake grade and a couple of lesser known twisty grades.  It is hard to imagine traveling on these steep, curvy, narrow roads especially in semi-trucks heading in both directions!  These are truly challenging roads.

Hotel Information:
Our route takes us to small Idaho and Oregon towns that are very rustic where the lodging can be sparse.  We will be staying in the best motels locally available.  Follow the lodging links and check them all out.  While sparse you will not be disappointed, real bikers love it.  It is all part of the adventure.  Most establishments are designated as non-smoking.

Virtually every road we will travel on has been designated as scenic. This is great motorcycle riding!

The tour is almost 800 miles in length and includes 4 riding days, 4 nights of lodging and all meals.  This is what we call our “Light Adventure” Tour, it is quick, very scenic, and does not include activities other than riding, eating, and sleeping.  On this tour you will experience first hand what it was like to travel north in parts of Idaho prior to the mid-70s.  We traverse roads in Idaho and Oregon, in some cases on well-maintained state highways and in other cases on roads that have been abandoned as the result of more modern slabs that make the journey comfortable for the cages and trucks.  No rental bikes are being reserved for this tour, however if you need a rental we can work with you.

Generally we expect this tour will be offered to riders who likely live close enough to be riding their own motorcycles.  If you need transportation to and from the airport we can arrange for it and if we know in advance we can help you with a rental bike.  We highly recommend that you arrive in the Boise area the day prior to departure.  If you will need accommodations we can assist with some recommendations.

Everyone is welcome since this tour is ideal for riders on their own bikes who are relatively local (surrounding states) or are interested in a short 4-day touring experience.  We highly recommend that participants be comfortable riding their bikes on these very aggressive roads to fully experience the tours challenge.  However, all of the difficult grades have since been officially abandoned and each has a major well-groomed highway that now bypasses the old grades.  If you feel uncomfortable, there are route alternatives.
